Horry County: where's your money going?

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – State law regulates not only how accommodations tax is collected but how it is allocated as well.

The state tax is a percentage of the tax, and then the county gets a portion as well. But it has to be put back into the area where it was collected.

This year Horry County expects to collect almost $3 million in accommodations tax funds.

Sometimes it is hard to justify all the requests of how the money should be used.

Horry County council recently approved its Capital Improvement Plan, which is basically a blueprint to our future of capital needs.

There are a lot of other new things in the CIP plan that you might not know are in the works.

Tune into WMBF News Today at 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. when WMBF News Reporter Katrina Helmer will be live on the beach in Horry County to show you where some of the accommodations tax money is going.
