CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A current Coastal Carolina University student and an alumna from CCU are competing in the Pan-Am Games in Toronto this week.

Jessica Gelibert, currently a senior with the Chanticleers, is representing Haiti in the Women’s 400m Hurdles, currently in the semifinal round. Gelibert placed third in the 400m Hurdles in the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships.

According to the Chanticleers Facebook page, CCU alumna Amber Campbell is also competing in the games. She is scheduled to compete Tuesday in the finals for the Women’s Hammer Throw. She also competed in the hammer throw at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, and the 2012 Olympics in London.

Campbell received a bronze in the 2011 Pan Am Games, held in Guadalajara, and competed in the 2005, 2009, 2011 and 2013 International Association of Athletics Federations championships.

The Pan Am Games, being held from July 10 to 26 in Toronto, Canada this year, are the world’s third-largest international multi-sport games event, held every four years for athletes in 41 member nations from across Latin America, South America, the Caribbean and North America.
