Florence man killed in fatal accident on E. Effingham Hwy.

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) – A Florence man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on East Effingham Highway around 7:35 a.m. Monday morning, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutcken says the victim, 29-year-old Duncan Clark, died at the scene as a result of his injuries sustained after his van was hit head on.

A 2008 box truck was travelling north on E. Effingham Hwy. near Pamplico Highway when the vehicle lost control and crossed the center line and hit Clark’s 2002 van, according to Cpl. Collins.

Clark and his passenger in the van were both wearing seatbelts and the driver of the box truck was not wearing a seatbelt.

The driver of the box truck, 26-year-old Chadwick Sims, was transported to a local hospital and is being charged with driving left of center, according to Cpl. Collins.

Howe Springs emergency crews were on scene this morning after responding to the vehicle accident, according to Fire Marshal Glenn Roenesberg.

The SCHP and the Florence County Coroner’s Office are investigating the incident.
