Body pulled from Intracoastal Waterway, identified

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Horry County Fire Rescue crews recovered the body of 36 year old Shawn Smith, identified late Friday night by Horry County Deputy Corner Darris G. Fowler.  

Fowler said Smith drowned while attempting to cross the waterway near the Boat House Waterway Grill around 3:30pm Friday. Horry County Police detectives are investigating the incident.The Horry County Fire Dive Team recovered the homeless victim, at 8:34 pm. Foul play isn't suspected. 

Lieutenant Raul Denis with the Horry County Police Department says three homeless men tried to cross the waterway to get to the woods on the other side when the missing man did not complete crossing the water.
