MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – More than 400 youth baseball and softball teams from 26 states are competing in Myrtle Beach at the 2015 Triple Crown Summer Nationals in July and August.

“The Summer Nationals continues to get bigger and better each year,” said John Casale, Summer Nationals Director.

More than 265 youth baseball teams will be in the area from July 16-29 and 158 softball teams from July 30 - August 2, as Myrtle Beach hosts the event for the 13th year in a row, according to a news release from Triple Crown Sports.

“Myrtle Beach is the perfect location for a national event of this caliber. The facilities are some of the nicest in the country, and teams have countless activities to enjoy when they are not at the ball fields,” Casale explained.

The tournament will significantly benefit the Myrtle Beach area as more than 10,000 coaches, players, family and friends bring millions of dollars in economic impact, the release states.

“This is the definition of ‘sports tourism,’” said Mark Kruea, spokesman for the City of Myrtle Beach. “Thousands of people are traveling to Myrtle Beach to enjoy our great facilities and all that the Grand Strand has to offer. We’re excited to welcome the Triple Crown Summer Nationals again.”

This is the first time that a team from outside the U.S. will be attending the event. The Caribes (Piranhas) are from Caracas, Venezuela and will be competing in the 11U baseball division, according to Triple Crown Sports.

The 26 U.S. states featured in this year’s tournaments include:

  • Colorado
  • Connecticut
  • Delaware
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Indiana
  • Kansas
  • Kentucky

  • New Jersey
  • New York
  • North Carolina
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina

Nearly 20 facilities will be used throughout the Grand Strand for the tournament and Ticketreturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark will not only host baseball’s opening ceremonies but also the 14U Super 64 championship game, which will be webcast live at WatchTCS.com at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, July, 26.
