Missing man's body found in woods in Robeson County

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Deputies uncovered a body off Alamac Road in Lumberton while searching the woods for a missing person on, according to Robeson County Sheriff Sealy.

Matthew Ray Hunt, age 22 of Orrum, was deemed missing on the night of Monday, July 13, when his scooter was found by North Carolina Highway Patrol. Two days later, Robeson County Sheriff’s deputies searched the area where Hunt’s scooter had been found when they discovered his body.

“I had so many things going through my head, you know,” Matthew’s girlfriend, Ashley Hunt said. “I was trying to figure out if he has got hurt, or if maybe he passed out trying to get back here.”

Sheriff Sealy says Matthew Hunt was on his way to the Cracker Barrel where he worked when he went missing.

“It just hurts knowing that at night I won’t hear goodnight and I love you,” Ashley expressed. “I won’t hear him tell our daughter (Maddison) how much he loves her. It hurts a lot.”

The RCSO is officially investigating this case as a homicide and are waiting on a full autopsy report from the medical examiner in Chapel Hill, NC, where Hunt’s body was sent to.
