HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A man and woman were arrested and charged with stealing melons or fruit from a watermelon patch in Galivants Ferry over the weekend, according to the Horry County Police Department.

Jack Ozie Beall, Jr., age 27 of Nichols, and Lorie Marlean Brown, age 22 of Galivants Ferry, were both arrested and taken into custody around 1:45 a.m. on July 12, by Aynor police.

On July 11, the owner of the watermelon patch advised police that he discovered approximately 30-40 watermelons missing from his land on Burroughs Road.

Beall and Brown were first encountered at a traffic stop on July 11, and told police they had gotten lost on their way home bringing the watermelons from Columbia.

According to the Horry County Police report, on the following night, police pulled over the same vehicle where Beall and Brown admitted to taking the watermelons from the field.
