Severe winds destroy multigenerational property in Horry County

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Members of the West family looked outside after Monday's storm to find a scene they said they've never seen despite living along Highway 366 for years.
"I mean we've had hurricanes and I've never seen anything this bad," said Alisha Vaught.
Based on pictures and videos of the scene, the National Weather Service concluded a microburst hit the property bringing straight-line winds up to 75 mph.
A house and a shed that were used for family parties and storage are now rubble.
"The buildings have been here as long as I can remember, as long as anyone can remember," Vaught said. "And they're just gone."
The only house on the property where people actually live is still standing, but a large tree fell and crushed the porch.
"My brother called me and told me I had a tree down in my yard," said Trevor West, who lives in the home. "When I came home, I found this. It was kind of overwhelming at first."
The porch, the walls and the belongings now scattered throughout the yard all hold special meaning for Geneva Doyle, who grew up on the property.
"The memories I had of living here and when mommy and daddy was here and all that, all that's gone," Doyle said. "I'll never have that."
West doesn't have insurance on the property, so he said he's hopeful friends and family will help out during the clean up process.
"It's going to take a minute, but we'll get it back," West said.

Non-emergency calls can be made to 843-546-5101 until further notice. Calls to the normal phone number will ring, but they cannot be answered. They are working to resolve the issue. There is no interruption to emergency 911 calls.

     North Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue worked to put out a fire at the Best Western at the 1600 Block of S. Ocean Blvd. Sunday afternoon. The call came in around 5:00 for the smell of smoke on the 6th floor. Upon arrival, crews found a small fire in the kitchen of a unit of the 6th floor that had been extinguished by sprinklers.
