Art therapy is especially beneficial for those suffering with alzheimers; when Alzheimer’s disease takes away individuals verbal skills, art therapy provides an alternative in which they can express themselves in a comfortable and non-threatening way, it can also help individuals recover the use of motor skills in the same way as physical rehabilitation, according to Alzheimers Foundation of America.

Autism studies from The Art of Autism, said the most popular treatment is behavior therapy, which aims at shaping behaviors through a system of rewards and consequences. Most recently, caregivers have seeked alternative treatments which have a broader range of options such as art therapy. Autism is a neurological condition present at birth, whose cause is unknown.

According to the Monarch Center for Autism, there is a common belief that art making is beneficial to people (particularly children) with Autism Spectrum Disorder due to their intense sensory needs and disregulation, often nonverbal nature, and need for more visual, concrete, hands-on therapies.

Art therapy is also beneficial in treating ; trauma, life transitions, accidents, birth of a sibling, divorce, hyperactivity, disabilities, emotional issues, behavioral issues, being in foster care, or being adopted.
