Today In Weather History:

Today, July 11th, was an active day in the past. As we dive down into the data archives of the NCDC (National Climatic Data Center) we'll find a lot of reports of damaging straight-line winds and a couple tornadoes as well that occurred in 2007. The NWS in Wilmington reported a tornado in Conway as well as in Coward. Here's the Public Information Statement from the NWS.

PATH RAN EAST ABOUT 1500 YARDS LONG AND AROUND 30 YARDS WIDE, DOING
DAMAGE MAINLY TO TREES AND OUTBUILDINGS WITH WINDS ESTIMATED AROUND
100 MPH. SNAPPED SOFTWOOD TREES WERE THE MAIN INDICATOR OF THE WIND
SPEED...AND THE TORNADO WAS RATED AS AN EF1 ON THE ENHANCED FUJITA
SCALE. THERE WAS NO DAMAGE IN THE AREA EXCEPT ALONG THE PATH OF THE
TORNADO.

THE SECOND TORNADO TOUCH DOWN OCCURRED AT ABOUT 640 PM IN HORRY
COUNTY AROUND 4 MILES NORTHWEST OF CONWAY. THE DAMAGE PATH WAS
SMALLER...ABOUT 100 YARDS LONG AND 10 YARDS WIDE, SNAPPING SOFTWOOD

THE TORNADO WAS ALSO RATED AS AN EF1...AND THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE
IN THE NEAR VICINITY.

ELSEWHERE...STRAIGHT LINE WIND DAMAGE WAS ASSESSED AT THE
WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY AIRPORT AND 4 MILES NORTHWEST OF MYRTLE BEACH."

As you can see from some of the pictures, there was a fair amount of damage done to trees, cars and a few structures. Power was out to hundreds.

Thankfully, no severe weather is expected today or in the near future. Just some hot weather and a few afternoon storms.
