HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A hearing to determine the fate of a woman who claims immunity from shooting her husband to death was held for the third day in an Horry County courtroom.

The defense team of Heather Sims argued Sims used the Stand Your Ground law to protect herself from husband, David Sims.

Closing statements are expected next, said Horry County Solicitor Jimmy Richardson.

"We finished with all of the state and defense witnesses around lunch. Now, they are set to do closing statements and the judge will have to decide. He may not decide today as he may take it under advisement," said Richardson.

In August 2013, Horry County Police officers responded to 3562 Old Reaves Ferry Road in Conway in reference to a shooting and stabbing.

Police said on arrival they found 35-year-old David Sims, Jr. shot to death inside his home. Police added that when they got into the house they also found David Sims' wife, Heather, had been stabbed.

Investigators claim there was an altercation between the two which resulted in both the shooting and the stabbing.
