GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 21-year-old deputy with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department was arrested for domestic violence and fired Tuesday after allegedly striking his live-in fiancé in the face while they were talking about a conflict in their relationship.

Mark Clayton Durkee was arrested Tuesday for third-degree domestic violence as a result of an investigation by the sheriff’s office.

The investigation began on the evening of July 6, when the fiancé notified GCSO that she was physically assaulted by Durkee at their residence on Ashcraft Circle in the Litchfield Community, on the evening of July 5, according to a GCSO news release. The victim said that Durkee became enraged due to a conflict in their relationship, and as she attempted to talk to him, he began throwing items, flipping furniture, and then struck her in the face.

Durkee met with GCSO investigators Tuesday morning, gave a statement, and was arrested, the release states. He was taken to the Georgetown County Detention Center where he is awaiting a bond hearing, as of Tuesday afternoon.

After his arrest, Durkee was terminated from the GCSO, officials stated. He had served a year with the office.
