If you have never been to one, job fairs can be a bit overwhelming. The hiring experts at Express Employment Professionals in Carolina Forest have some tips on how to prepare. As simple as it is, owner Jim Hale says make sure you show up on time and have reliable transportation. Tardiness and excuses do not make a good first impression. Also, be sure to dress professionally no matter what position you are interviewing for. And have any applications or ID ready with you.

“A lot of the job fairs are looking for you right now, to start maybe even tomorrow,” says Hale. “They’re having a job fair for a reason. Because they need people. We find that the need for workers stretches to everything from general laborers down to the skills.”

Another pointer from the professionals is to not bad mouth any previous employers. That can reflect poorly on your attitude.

“They may ask you where you worked lately and where you got your skills sets and things like that,” says Hale. “That is no time to start bashing that person. Because a lot of these human resource folks all go to the same meetings. And they know each other.”

Express Employment Professionals strives to find strong employees to match with local employers. Hale says, currently, they have more open positions than they have people applying. Some of those jobs include outside sales, CDL drivers, pool technicians, electricians, roofers, mechanics, HVAC techs, housekeepers, paralegals, accounting clerks, and much more.

“They are adding a lot of new positions,” says Hale. “We didn’t see a big retraction in the winter. We were still able to place a lot of folks in the winter and the spring. And now that summer is here, we’re going to get some seasonal workers. But they’re all saying, ‘Hey, if they’re good, at the end of the summer, we’re going to keep them on.’”
