Businesses see mixed results on Fourth of July weekend

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - After a slow, rainy start to this week, businesses along the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk are looking back at how things picked up.

Crowds starting coming in later on in the week, but things really got going Saturday night.

"The boardwalk was packed,” said Emilye Rybarczyk, a server with Dirty Don’s Oyster Bar and Grill. “A lot of people were going outside to watch the fireworks because you get a good view right on the boardwalk, and then as soon as they were done, people were coming in and getting some food and drinks."

Dirty Don's Oyster Bar and Grill had expectations going into the holiday weekend, and says business was right where it needed to be.

The boardwalk has been packed, which means so is the restaurant.

“People have been trying to get tables, you know,” said Rybarczyk. “We don’t have a wait list or anything, it’s seat yourself, so people have been coming in trying to get a table as soon as they can, but people have been waiting almost an hour for a table here.”

Around the corner from the Boardwalk is the longtime Myrtle Beach staple, The Bowery. The bar says business has been good, but it wasn't what it was expecting.

It believes part of why that's the case, is how the holiday fell on a weekend.

“Instead of giving people a whole week to deal with, they might scale back and just do three, four, five days instead of a week when it landed on a Saturday," said John Paul Craig, a manager at The Bowery.

Craig says business is still great, but they'll hope the next few weeks make up for what this one lacked.
