MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Emergency crews responded to 600 Mr. Joe White Ave. Sunday for reports of a structure fire at 8:03 a.m.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and flames showing from the exterior of a multi-story structure. All occupants were out of the units.

After fire crews made sure all residents were evacuated, they quickly extinguished the fire and worked on salvaging anything from the units that may have been valuable to the families.

According to Myrtle Beach Fire Marshal Bruce Arnel, the neighbors had smoke in their unit from the fire, and firefighters safely removed cats from that unit.

Three units were affected, only the family in one of those units were home at the time and they were able to get out safely.

Electricity was pulled from the building for the safety of the firefighters and the safety of those in nearby buildings.

According to Lt. Christian Sliker, the cause of fire has been ruled as accidental, certain evidence leads fire investigators to believe fireworks may have been the cause, due to statements from witnesses about people shooting off fireworks in the area which is illegal within city limits to buy and shoot off.

Due to heat and smoke damage, residents are in temporary housing assisted from the American Red Cross until the units can be restored.
