MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A man was arrested at The Diplomat hotel Wednesday morning, but not before trying to escape police by going into someone else's hotel room.

"I came out of my room to smoke a cigarette and this guy came up and said, 'Let me in your room. I got to hide from the law, got to hid from the cops,' said Matthew Hussey, who was staying at The Diplomat.

Hussey said he refused to let the man into his room. Staff at the Diplomat said the man was not a motel guest.

"I didn't know what to think," he said. "All of a sudden this guy out of nowhere is wanting to get into my room for just a few minutes. He was like, 'I'll pay you anything you want. I don't want nothing. You're not coming in my room, no."

Hussey said the man then jumped from the third-story balcony.

"He jumped off a balcony and somebody tackled him down and held him down," he said. "He kind of came down head first."

Myrtle Beach police then arrested the man and transported him in an ambulance.

Lt. Joey Crosby said Myrtle Beach Police Department had a warrant for the man's arrest as did other police departments.

The man's name and charges have not yet been released, but he is scheduled for a bond hearing at Ted C. Collins Law Enforcement Center at 9 a.m. Thursday.
