MYRTLE BEACH SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach City Council met at City Hall Monday to discuss the Confederate flag. Local leaders discussed a resolution that would support the retiring of the Confederate flag from the State House grounds in Columbia.

The board of directors for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce also sounded off with an opinion on Monday. Members voted that the Confederate flag displayed on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds, be removed and placed in an appropriate historical display.

"For a number of years now, we have felt the Confederate flag's appropriate home is a historical museum or display. Today's action reaffirms that stance and our desire to promote unity throughout our state,” said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. “While this action cannot undo the tragic events that took place in Charleston, our hope is that perhaps something positive will result out of something horrific.”
