MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The Horry County Fire Rescue has contained a three-plus-acre wildfire that started around 6:15 p.m. behind the Carolina Forest Library in Myrtle Beach, according to Deputy Chief Chris Slemp, with the Horry County Fire Rescue.

Battalion Chief Justin Gibbins says HCFR has reduced to only two units assisting SC Forestry with cleanup at the scene.

“Because of the size and proximity to the people in the area they dispatched four brush trucks and five engines and one tanker,” Deputy Chief Slemp said.

Deputy Chief Slemp said he could not confirm that lightning caused the fire but witnesses said they did see lightning in the area.
