HCSO warns public of telephone scam

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Sheriff's Office wants the public to be aware of a telephone scam happening in our area.

A person is calling citizens posing as a deputy or supervisor with the HCSO, asking for money to pay a fine, according to the HCSO Facebook page.

The HCSO says its office DOES NOT collect fines for ANY court; if someone asks you to pay a fine with a pre-paid debit card, PayPal, Western Union or MoneyGram, it is more than likely a scam.

The HCSO is asking the public to NOT send money and to call its main office before paying any money.

For more information, please call the HCSO at (843)-915-5450.
