Free police program monitors home while you're away

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – It's always a good idea to ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on your house for any suspicious activity while you're away on vacation. But the Myrtle Beach Police Department can also provide extra peace of mind through a program called Keep Check.

If your home is in city limits, officers can come out to your house to make routine checks for you while you're away. They'll look for signs of someone trying to break-in or anything else suspicious.

But you have to sign up for the program. All you need to do is call the department and tell the dispatcher that you would like to enter your home in Keep Check. You will need to give the dispatcher the following information:

· The dates you will be gone

· Any cars that will be in the driveway

· Any lights left on or on timers

· Anyone that might be around the house while you're gone, like a cleaning service

· Emergency contact information

Keep Check is a free program. To sign up, call 918-1382.
