HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A fatal traffic accident involving two vehicles blocked all southbound lanes of Highway 501 near Carolina Forest on Monday afternoon, according to multiple agencies.

The accident occurred on Highway 501 southbound at about 11:59 a.m. Monday, and does involve a fatality, according to preliminary information posted online by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

A GMC SUV driven by 23-year-old David Cole Wenglinsky was travelling south on Hwy. 501 when he tried to change lanes striking the rear of a Honda SUV, according to SCHP. This caused the GMC to overturn, ejecting Wenglinsky.

Wenglinsky was declared dead at the scene, according to Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick. The driver of the Honda SUV was not injured.

The accident, which occurred between Gardner Lacy Road and Carolina Forest Boulevard, blocked all southbound lanes of traffic for over an hour Monday afternoon, according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

SCHP is investigating, and no charges are expected to be filed.
