Driver identified in fatal 701 crash Saturday

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol confirmed a traffic fatality on US 701 by Waccamaw Drive Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. when two vehicles collided head-on.

The crash happened in Loris less than a mile from the North Carolina state border. The SCHP said two vehicles were involved in the crash.

56 year old Joey Faircloth of Loris was driving a 1994 Chevrolet pickup truck southbound on US 701, and a 2013 Cadillac SUV was traveling in the northbound lane. The SCHP said Faircloth tried to pass another vehicle, and hit the Cadillac head-on.

Faircloth was pronounced dead at the scene due to traumatic injuries sustained in the collision, according to the Horry County coroner's office.

The driver of the Cadillac and a passenger were both transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
