Pawleys Island hit hard after thunderstorm

PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WMBF) - Midway Fire Rescue department was busy Friday after thunderstorms plagued Pawleys Island.

At around 4 p.m. the department responded to three weather-related incidences, said Assistant Chief James Crawford

Three people crawled out the back of an SUV when a gust of wind grabbed the ceiling of a condo and landed atop the vehicle, said Crawford.

No one was hurt.

Lightning struck two buildings on Compass Court and Parker Drive, in North Litchfield. No one was hurt.

In addition, a power outage caused people to be trapped inside an elevator in the area, Crawford said.

Again, no one was hurt in the incident.

By 4:50 p.m., Crawford said the department was experiencing a lull.
