FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The Pee Dee Harvest Hope Food Bank will be celebrating their 1 Makes 5 campaign to help end hunger in South Carolina on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Harvest Hope facility in Florence.

Harvest Hope Food Bank hopes to raise 150,000 meals in one day by turning every single dollar donated into five meals for families, children and seniors struggling with hunger throughout the state, according to a news release from Harvest Hope Food Bank.

Harvest Hope is encouraging everyone to come out and participate in the celebration by touring their facilities, using the hashtag #1Makes5 at the photo booth to post photos to social media platforms, volunteering by sorting, inspecting and packing donated foods and making donations online at

Meals have been provided to 93,300 families across eight counties in the Pee Dee through the outreach efforts of Harvest Hope, states the release. According to the Harvest Hope Food Bank website, they began in 1981 on a mission to “provide for the needs of hungry people by gathering and sharing quality food with dignity, compassion and education.”

In 2014 alone, they fed close to 38,000 people a week and distributed over 28 million pounds of food in South Carolina, according to Harvest Hope's website.

Harvest Hope's facility in Florence is located at 2513 West Lucas Street.
