Police respond to standoff, shooting in Conway

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Horry County police responded to a standoff Sunday after a shooting in the Conway section of the county. The incident happened shortly after 12 p.m. June 14 on Lighthouse Church Road in Conway.

A 47-year-old woman and 39-year-old-man were shot by a suspect suffering from Dementia, police said.

The 75-year-old suspect was off medications and going "crazy," police said. The suspect barricaded himself after the shooting.

According to police, the suspect shot his daughter's companion. Pellets from the gun entered the victim's arm, ribs and back .

The suspect's daughter also was shot. Police said the woman was shot as she tried to prevent the situation.

Multiple law enforcement officials, including SWAT, members from a bomb squad, canine units, Myrtle Beach police, officials from street crimes unit, and other first responders helped in the investigation.

Both victims were treated for minor injuries and have been released.
