Surveillance cameras going up at beach access points across Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Phase 2 of the Myrtle Beach surveillance cameras kicked off this week.

Months ago, the city of Myrtle Beach gave the "okay" to install more than 800 surveillance cameras around the city. Several were installed immediately in Phase 1. Myrtle Beach Police leaders wanted the 32 cameras on Ocean Boulevard set and ready to go before Memorial Day Weekend.

Now, in Phase 2, cameras will go in at some of the beach access points all over the city. Police officers will be able to access all these cameras after the fact as part of the investigation. And dispatchers can access the cameras while on a call with someone to relay real-time information to police officers on scene.

All 800 cameras will go up in a total of four phases. This project comes at a cost of nearly $1.3 million.
