Father, son arrested after brawl at The Boathouse Bar

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A father and son were detained by security and arrested early Monday morning after the father struck two people with an axe handle after being asked to leave The Boathouse bar in Myrtle Beach, according to a police report.

Barry Thomas, 46, 18-year-old Zachary Thomas, and Thomas's other son were escorted out of the Boathouse after midnight Monday, according to the Horry County Police report. As the other son tried to get a cab, Barry Thomas got an axe handle out of his truck and began swinging it around. He struck one man in the forehead and another on the face before the bar's manager and two security guard subdued him.

That's when Zach Thomas exited the truck and punched the manager in the face, the report states. Zach Thomas tried to run, but security and bystanders subdued him. He eventually broke free and ran to a nearby hotel, claiming to the hotel clerk that someone was trying to kill his dad.

Police were called, and after arriving on scene, both Barry and Zachary Thomas were placed into custody.

Barry Thomas was charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center, where he remains, as of Tuesday afternoon. Zachary Thomas was booked on one count of assault and battery, third degree. He was released from J. Reuben Long at about 5 p.m. Monday.
