MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) Myrtle Beach Fire Rescue officials are still investigating what happened at the Target Retail Store on Seaboard Street, Sunday night. According to fire officials, several people received minor injuries, first responders were called to the store around 9 p.m., but they are not sure what exactly happened, they said several people were reportedly coming out of the store coughing and were complaining of itchy, watery eyes.

Battalion Chief Ian Maxwell with Myrtle Beach Fire Department was at the scene. "We're not entirely sure unfortunately, we may never know it could have been something as simple as somebody letting their pepper spray loose in their purse or activating some other kind of self defense spray inside the store and walking out," Maxwell said.

Myrtle Beach Police, Myrtle Beach Fire, and the State Weapons of Mass Destruction team, who were in town for the Carolina Country Music Festival, were on the scene.

Crews were unable to figure out what happened. All employees were allowed back into the store around 10:20 p.m.
