Mother of baby left in dumpster indicted for attempted murder

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A woman accused of leaving a new-born baby in a Myrtle Beach dumpster in April has been indicted for attempted murder, according to court records.

Shelby Harper Taylor, 23, was charged with one count of attempted murder after allegedly leaving her new-born child in a dumpster at an apartment complex at 500 Fairway Village Drive on April 9, according to officials, according to Lt. Raul Denis with the Horry County Police Department.

Taylor was indicted by an Horry County Grand Jury on one charge of attempted murder last Friday, according to a court records.

Police say when they arrived, they located what appeared to be a white female infant that had been put inside a trash bag, and placed in the community dumpster in front of an apartment complex. Police say the child appeared to be alive, "freshly born", and covered in blood and afterbirth.

After pictures of Taylor were distributed via social media, she turned herself in to police and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. She was later booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and then released on a $10,000 bond, according to court records.
