Special election held in Johnsonville following city council member's death

JOHNSONVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A Johnsonville City Council member's brother filled his sister's seat after a special election.

An election was held Tuesday to fill a vacant Johnsonville City Council seat following the death of City Council member, Diane Marsh, according to a clerk with the City of Johnsonville. 

According to city officials, M. Doolittle Stone won the seat during the election. Stone, the brother of Marsh, was opposed by William Kelley. There were 157 votes cast out of a possible 896. Stone received 93 votes (59.24%), and Kelley received 64 votes (40.76%). Officials say neither candidate was an incumbent. All seats in Johnsonville are “at-large".

Stone will be sworn in on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Johnsonville City Council meeting.
