Boat sinks at Murrells Inlet marina

MURRELLS INLET, SC (WMBF) – A boat sank at the Marlin Quay Marina in Murrells Inlet Tuesday morning as a boater was bringing it in to dock.

A WMBF News camera captured the boat sinking Tuesday at around 10 a.m. Witnesses said the boater was bringing his boat into the marina when he realized it was starting to take on water, and wasn't steering well.

Others at the marina jumped into action to help the boater, using buckets to get water out of the boat, but it was sinking too quickly. Witnesses said they were able to get the boat tied to the dock before it went under.

Workers at the marina put out oil-absorbing pads in a perimeter around the boat, and witnesses said the boat did not appear to be leaking any oil or gasoline.

Witnesses said it appeared the boat's electronics were fried, and it will likely be a complete loss. They were able to salvage some personal items, such as a cooler, but a salvage company will need to be brought in to re-float the boat and salvage what they can, according to witnesses at the scene.
