NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A homeless man from Baltimore, Maryland was stabbed in the shoulder and slashed in the face by another homeless man from Missouri Thursday night in North Myrtle Beach, according to officials.

The suspect and victim met two days ago and had been hanging out together before the stabbing, said Patrick Dowling with the City of North Myrtle Beach. The suspect in the stabbing was identified as 25-year-old Justin Ray Boggs, from Bland, Missouri.

At about 10:45 p.m. Thursday in the 1500 block of South Highway 17 in North Myrtle Beach, the two got into a verbal argument about the police being called on them for Boggs's panhandling activity outside a convenience store, Dowling said. After a brief physical altercation, Boggs pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed the victim in the right shoulder, and cut the victim in the right side of his face.

Police were notified, and Boggs fled from the scene, Dowling said. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital.

At about 12:35 a.m. Friday, two NMB Public Safety Department officers saw a man matching Boggs's description in the parking lot of Lumber Liquidators, Dowling continued. When they turned their vehicle around, he was gone, but the officers ultimately found him hiding behind the Midtown Bistro and placed him under arrest.

Boggs was booked into J. Reuben Long Detention Center on a $20,000 bond, and charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.
