Bennettsville postal worker charged for stealing money from mail

BENNETTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) – A 58-year-old postal employee from Bennettsville was charged on Wednesday with stealing money from the mail, according to the office of United State Attorney Bill Nettles.

Melvin Lewis Jones was charged in a one-count indictment by a Grand Jury in Florence. Jones could receive a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a fine of $250,000.

The case was investigated agents of the U.S. Postal Service – Office of the Inspector General, and is assigned to U.S. Attorney Bradley Parham of the Florence officer.
