Woman awakens to find burglary suspect inside Timmonsville home

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - An Effingham man has been charged with first-degree burglary after a woman told police she awoke to find the suspect inside her home.

Lorenzo Leevern Sumter, 29, was arrested by deputies with the Florence County Sheriff's Office on Monday, May 25.

Just before 6 a.m. Monday, deputies were called to a Timmonsville home on West John Paul Road, in reference to a reported burglary.

According to the victim, she was awakened from her sleep by noises inside the residence, and upon investigating the source, found and confronted the suspect inside the residence, deputies said. 

Sumter then fled the scene running toward Country Lane. 

Deputies located Sumter minutes later coming out of a wooded area near Country Lane. He was taken into custody and charged with the said crime.

Bond has been denied by a Florence County Magistrate.
