MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF/AP) - People from local American Red Cross chapters will be traveling to various locations in the United States to assist with flooding issues.

According to Lou Palm, Disaster Program Manager with the American Red Cross Palmetto SC Region, six people from the Myrtle Beach and Florence areas will be going to the Dallas/Fortworth area or Oklahoma. Palm says most volunteers left over the weekend. Four people will travel to Dallas, one person will travel to Houston, and one person will be going to Oklahoma.

Officials say from SC, 13 people are deployed, and 12 out of the 13 are volunteers. Palm is heading to Houston, Texas as the assistant director for government relations. Officials say Palm will be working with government and media out of the Houston area.

Floodwaters deepened across much of Texas on Tuesday as storms dumped almost a foot more of rain on the Houston area, stranding hundreds of motorists and inundating the famously congested highways that serve the nation's fourth-largest city.
