Horry County sees slightly fewer 911 calls during Bikefest 2015

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – The total number of 911 calls made to Horry County emergency services during Memorial Day Bikefest dipped slightly in 2015, but the number of warnings given out by police rose significantly.

According to statistics released by the county on Tuesday, there were 4106 total calls for service between May 21 and 25, compared to 4301 calls over the Memorial Day weekend period in 2014.

While data on the number of arrests in 2014 was not available, Horry County Police issued 143 warnings in 2014, compared to 322 in 2015, an increase of 55 percent. There were slightly more courtesy citations given out in 2015: 220, compared to 204 last year.

In 2014, 109 people were either warned or cited for speeding between May 21 and May 25 in Horry County. In 2015, 251 people were warned or cited, and one person was arrested, according to the statistics.

Countywide, there were 66 motorcycle accident during the 2015 Bikefest, according to county officials.
