Shoplifting suspect apprehended after escaping during bond court

CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – A North Carolina Man who was arrested for shoplifting briefly escaped from J. Reuben Long Detention Center Monday morning after jumping over the judge's bench and running out an unsecured door, jail officials confirmed.

At about 11:19 a.m., during the bond court appearance for 38-year-old Darren Love, from Winston Salem, NC, Love was able to jump over the judge's bench and escape out a door leading to the judge's chamber, according to Security Captain Kwame Livingston at J. Reuben Long.

At 11:25 a.m., Love was apprehended and brought back to jail by Captain Livingston and a lieutenant.

Love was in jail for shoplifting, and had a $5,000 surety bond, Captain Livingston said. Love is now being held for the attempted escape in a maximum security unit and is being checked on every 15 minutes.
