Officials close traffic loop earlier than expected

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The 23-mile traffic loop has come to an end, according to Lt. Crosby with the Myrtle Beach Police Department.

"Due to light traffic volume the traffic loop has concluded," Crosby said. The loop ended just after 12 a.m. Monday; the loop was scheduled in effect until 2 a.m.

The loop became part of city leaders' and law enforcement officials' master operational plan for Bikefest and Memorial Day weekend in Myrtle Beach.

The loop forced drivers along Highways 501, 31, 17, Grissom Parkway, 29th Avenue North, Kings Highway and Harrelson Boulevard from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. Friday, Saturday and until 12 a.m. Sunday.
