West Dixie Street murder suspect appears before judge

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The suspect in the shooting death of a man on West Dixie Street on Saturday appeared before a municipal court judge Wednesday and bond was set for two of the charges in this case.

Zafir Abdul Bethea, 19, of Florence, was arrested and taken to the Florence County Detention Center on Tuesday, May 19, said Major Carlos Raines.


On Wednesday, Bethea's bond was set at $80,000 for two charges: possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and possession of a firearm without a serial number. Bethea will remain in custody until he can appear before a circuit court judge for bond consideration on the murder charge. 

Bethea is being charged for the murder of Terrell Quantrev Smith, said Raines.

The shooting happened Saturday, May 16 at 9 p.m. on West Dixie Street in Florence.
