GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - While it's calm and quiet outside the Plantersville General store, those inside are looking back at Monday's shocking experience.

That day, Kerry Thames was in the parking lot working on a broken down truck. He heard thunder down the road but thought he had plenty of time to get it up and running.

“Suddenly my cousin hears some noise, and he sees something like lightning struck on the truck and the guy was working there, seeing him rolling on the floor,” said Jay Amin, who works at the store.

“I reckon when I was loosening it, lightning struck me,” Kerry Thames, the man struck by lightning, explained.

Security cameras from the store don't show much, but you can see a quick flash of white. Then a few seconds later, Thames goes in between the trucks and starts writhing in pain.

“Just paralyzed from the left side, left arm, left leg, couldn't move them,” Thames said.

Thames says someone then helped him into the back of a truck and drove him to a nearby fire station.

He then made his way to a hospital in Georgetown before being airlifted to a burn unit in Augusta Georgia.

“I was thinking that maybe I'll get the feeling back in my arm because I gotta [sic] work,” He said. “I got a family to feed, and I've got kids,” He added.

The feeling came back to Thames' left side on Tuesday, but he didn't get out of the hospital until two days later. He says just a half hour after he got home, he went right back to work.

Today he stopped by the store for the first time to see how it all looked from another point of view.

“It was an off the wall experience, but I wouldn't let nobody [sic]go through that. I mean, it's a hard feeling to go through,” He said. “It's a hurting feeling too, but I wouldn't put that on nobody,” He added.

So with no scars or injuries, and no hard feelings, Thames is back to the status quo. The only thing different is he now has a story not many can match.
