MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The number of Santee Cooper customers affected by a power outage has diminished to 249. Over 1,000 customers in Myrtle Beach experienced the outage Saturday night.

Initially, officials thought the outage was caused by a nearby car crash. Officials say further investigation suggests it may have been caused by bad cables instead.

Crews at the scene told WMBF News reporter, Conor McCue, nothing was hit, there were no downed power lines, and they are not sure what caused the power outages. Neighbors in the area were told the power should be restored before 10 p.m. Saturday night.

According to Santee Cooper's website, 1,031 customers were affected. The outages started around 7:30 p.m. near the Arcadian Shores Golf Club and Lakeshore Drive.
