NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Coastal Carolina Adaptive Sports and Recreation is teaming up with Ocean Cure to offer a free day of surfing for people with disabilities.

Wheel to Surf is an adaptive surfing clinic that will be held on May 16 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the beach at 21st Avenue, South in North Myrtle Beach. Surf instructors will lead teams of volunteers to make sure all participants are safe.

“I love surfing, and I want to share my love with others. This is what drives me to do this event, and the fact that I have learned that I have the power to change people's lives in one day. Sometimes it is as simple as getting a person with a disability on a surfboard, and doing what they thought they would never be able to do,” said Brock Johnson, Board Member of Coastal Carolina Adaptive Sports and Recreation. Johnson is also the organizer of the event.

The Wheel to Surf event is open to people of all experience levels and ages. The event is designed to accommodate the majority of disabilities, officials say.

For more information contact Johnson at 843-333-0489 or Melinda Chappell at 843-997-7688.
