XCON World comic convention brings celebs to the beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Friday kicks off the XCON World annual comic convention and show in Myrtle Beach, a three-day event with celebrity guests, writers and artists.

More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the event at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.

WWE Wrestling legend Ric Flair will be there, along with Josh McDermitt, who plays Eugene Porter on AMC's hit The Walking Dead, Tim Russ, known as Commander Tuvok on Star Trek: Voyager, and Brian O'Halloran, who plays Dane Hicks in Kevin's Smith's Clerks movies. There will also be other actors from The Walking Dead, One Tree Hill, Power Rangers, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

"I think Myrtle Beach is particularly already a tourist destination,” said Robin Roberts, co-founder of X-CON World. “So over half of our attendees are coming from out-of-markets places, spending the night here or staying for the entire weekend, or the week. And I think people like to come to Myrtle Beach. That's one of the ways that we can pull some really great celebrities.”

A three-day pass is going to cost you $25.
