Former Florence County corrections officer accused of 'inappropriate relationship' with inmate

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A Florence County corrections officer has been accused of having an inappropriate relationship with an inmate, according to the Florence County Sheriff's Office.

Leah Harris Longmore, 44, was arrested by investigators with the sheriff's office Thursday and charged with common law misconduct in office. 

According to FCSO Investigators, between February and May of 2015, Longmore, Longmore committed misconduct in office by knowingly and willingly entering into an inappropriate relationship with a South Carolina Department of Corrections inmate housed at the Florence County Detention Center. 

Longmore's employment with the detention center has been terminated. 

Longmore was released from the Florence County Detention Center on a $5000 personal recognizance bond.

    An Horry County firefighter living in Conway was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student, according to jail records and other sources. Matthew James Oswald, 31, from Conway, was arrested by Horry County police at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday and charged with sexual battery with a student. As of Thursday morning, he remained incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
