Myrtle Beach first responders could get 5 percent pay raise

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach first responders could get a five percent pay raise.

City council members approved the proposal Tuesday.

If approved at the budget's second-reading, the increase would be effective with the first full pay period in July.

“The five percent jump recognizes the significant workload and demand on personnel in those two departments,” said Mark Kruea, city spokesman.

The proposed pay raise comes in advance of a market compensation study for all city positions that could result in additional salary adjustments.

The proposed budget includes the resumption of the merit pay plan with a maximum increase of 3 percent for outstanding performance, said City Manager John Pedersen. The budget also includes funding for a comprehensive compensation study to compare all positions in the City with the market for these positions.

A second reading is required before the budget can take effect.
