Barringer Wingard Jr., Program Coordinator has once again put together a special program designed to celebrate all of our veterans, current members of the military and their families. But, the focus remains on those service members who gave their lives while wearing our nation's uniform.
The highlight of the ceremony will be remarks by two esteem speakers, Dr. Ron Walters, National Cemetery Administration, Interim Under Secretary for Memorial Affairs and South Carolina Attorney General/SC Army National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Alan Wilson.
The ceremony will also include traditional music, rifle volleys and taps by the Florence Veterans Honor Guard, Civil War re-enactors represented by the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Charles Devans Jr. Camp 10, the Sons of Confederate Veterans 7th Brigade Honor Guard, and the Pee Dee Light Artillery 1st Illinois US Artillery. The re-enactors will be dressed in period uniforms, with rifles and all accouterments and the Pee Dee Light Artillery will fire their cannons near the end of the ceremony.
The ceremony will last about 45 minutes. There is limited seating so guests are encouraged to bring chairs. Parking will be available to the public at the SC Dept. of Disabilities and Special Needs area. For more information, please call the Florence National Cemetery at 843-669-8783.
