DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Darlington County Coroner, Todd Hardee commended first responders after a toy doll was mistaken for a dead baby in Hartsville.

According to Hardee, he was asked to respond to what was reported as a dead baby left in a car at Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center in Hartsville. When the coroner arrived to the scene, an external examination was performed, and it was determined that the “baby” was actually a toy doll.

Hardee expressed how proud he was of the first responders. "Anytime you see a child in any situation that could be harmful, you should never hesitate to render aid," Hardee said. The coroner thanked the Hartsville Police Department, the Darlington County Sheriff's Office, the Hartsville Fire Department, Darlington County EMS, and Carolina Pines for a quick response to the situation.
