Man struck by lightning tells his story

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A man has been flown to a burn center in Augusta after being struck by lightning, said Chief Tony Hucks with the Georgetown County Fire Department.

Kerry Thames said he was lying on the wet ground under a bucket truck trying to fix it when lightning struck. He works for Jimmy's Tree Service as a mechanic.

Thames said he rolled out from the truck tried to stand up and fell back down. A coworker called 9-1-1.

Thames was taken to the fire department in a pickup truck, from there was take to Georgetown Hospital.

Thames said he has some nerve damage to his left side but suffered no serious burns.

He said he had a loss of feeling on his left side, but it's coming back slowly. He said he couldn't feel his left side hours after the incident, but by Tuesday, he said he has started to get tingling feelings.
