Suspect to face Circuit Court judge for Racepath Street murder

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A suspect was taken into custody after a woman was shot and killed on Racepath Street in Horry County Friday night, according to officials. 

The Horry County Coroner identified the victim as 21-year-old Nigeria McDonald. The Coroner added McDonald died at Grand Strand Medical Center shortly after she arrived; an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.

James A. Wilson, 22, of North Myrtle Beach, was taken into custody in connection with the murder in Racepath, according to Lt. Raul Denis with Horry County Police. According to J. Reuben Long Detention Center officials, Wilson was charged with murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and criminal domestic violence high aggravated nature. Due to the severity of Wilson's charges, bond must be set by a Circuit Court judge, officials say.

Wilson will remain at J. Reuben Long Detention Center until his court date. Officials have not released information on when Wilson is due in court. 

McDonald was shot on Racepath Street near Myrtle Beach city limits Friday night. Crime scene investigators arrived after police were called at around 8 p.m. Witnesses at the scene said she was shot in the rib-cage area near her left armpit during a fight between Wilson and another woman, according to the police report. One of the witnesses was applying pressure to McDonald's gunshot wound when police arrived. They also told police that the suspect fled on foot towards the Highway 501 area, before he was taken into custody by police.
