MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – On Tuesday morning, the newly-formed Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce held a meet and greet event at The Father's House.

The chamber introduced its board members, and shared some of its goals with those attended. One of the topics brought up throughout the meeting was the changing demographics of the United States, and how Myrtle Beach businesses need to adapt their marketing strategies to attract a more diverse customer base.

Last week, Governor Nikki Haley's office posted a message on YouTube congratulating the Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce on its grand opening. Watch it here.

"I want to congratulate the Myrtle Beach Black Chamber of Commerce on your grand opening," she said. "I am sorry I cannot be there, but we are looking forward to you joining the many chambers of commerce that have become our partners throughout the state."

Brad Dean, spokesman for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, provided the following statement to WMBF News about the newly-formed group:

"We don't know much about the board of directors or staff behind this effort but we welcome the collaboration of any group that genuinely desires to improve the Grand Strand and grow our local economy. For 77 years, our role has always been the promotion of local businesses throughout our community and we will continue to lead that effort. As a part of that ongoing commitment, we will continue to strategically target new visitors to grow our tourism industry."
